Obama denounces new media

Remember the 2008 presidential election?
Then you probably also recall the buzz then-Senator Obama generated through new media. He used every new trend on the internet, including blogs, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook to get as much exposure as possible. Just think of the “Yes We Can” song, made by celebrities like will.i.am, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Scherzinger, Hill Harper and many others. It has been viewed more than 30 million times up to now.

But I guess Obama does not need the new media any more. Otherwise he probably would not blame blogs and Youtube for his government’s problems. He said on abc-News, that Shirley Sherrod got fired because of this “media culture” where everything can end up on the internet.
I might be wrong, but wasn’t this “media culture” an important topic in Obama’s election campaign? Most of his popularity came through viral videos and the ability to get his message out, even to those people were not interested in politics at all.
Of course there is a difference between elections and actual governance, but he dissociates himself from everything, once it gets in his way.
But we won’t have to worry, President Obama will go back to embracing new media once his 2012 re-election campaign kicks in.
