Christine O’Donnell: A storyteller wants to be Senator

Election Day is just one day away and it will not only be a turning point for the Obama administration, but also for the Tea Party movement. Nobody knows how the election will turn out and what the headlines on November 3rd will be, but it is most likely that the Republicans will at least take over the House of Representatives and maybe even the Senate.
Contrary to most Senate races, the one in Delaware between Democrat Chris Coons and Tea Party supported Republican Christine O’Donnell will turn out in favor of Coons. He leads his opponent by approximately 10 points, according to various opinion polls.

During a debate at the Widener Law School, Christine O’Donnell displayed a major lack of understanding the First Amendment to the Constitution. She simply did not know, that the first part of this amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion[…]”, better known as the Establishment Clause, aims at separating church and state. This is quite shocking for a candidate running on the promise to base her work in Washington on the constitution.
Make sure to watch the video of the debate below.

Shortly after the media had picked up the story, she made sure to clarify that she meant that separation of church and state is not literally included in the first amendment. It is an interesting excuse, yet not slightly believable, because just after More precisely, just after Coons citeds the first part of the Establishment Clause, Christine O’Donnell asked if “that’s in the first amendment”.
You will probably come to the same conclusion, if you watch the video.

But that’s not all. During a Tea Party rally, she tried to play down the whole situation and attempted to blame the “liberal media” for twisting her words. She also said, that she asked Coons to “name the five freedoms, protected to us by the first amendment.” right after he said that separation of church and state is in the first amendment, “And he couldn’t.”.
This claim is not only completely misleading, but also untrue. He decided to not answer the question, because, as everyone can hear in the video, it was completely out of context and had nothing to do with the actual topic.

Make up your own mind by watching the video of her rally, but think about it this way, do you really want a Senator, who lies about something, just to stop the ongoing humiliation of not understanding the first amendment.
