Midterm elections getting ugly

Midterm Elections 2010With primaries in Nevada and California over, the candidates begin to attack their opponents. The first ones are Jerry Brown and Sharron Angle.

In the Nevada Senate race, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trying to defend his seat against Republican candidate Sharron Angle. This race is crucial not only for Democrats, but also for the Tea Party Movement. The latter one definitely needs to proof, that its candidates are able to win a major race.
Angle stated in her first interview after she won the GOP nomination, that Reid is a “whack job”, who needs to get fired. Quite a remark, but it gets better.

Jerry Brown, Democratic opponent of former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, compared her to Goebbels, minister of propaganda in the 3rd Reich. Whitman spent nearly $80 million on the primary alone. She used most of the money for TV ads. That’s probably why Brown, who only spent $200,000 up to now, criticized her campaign style. But that does in no way excuse the comparison to the Nazi-propaganda of Goebbels.

Yet this is probably just the beginning of extensive mudslinging in this year’s elections.
