US has first strike plan on Iran, so what?

Admiral Mike Mullen was a guest on NBC’s Meet the Press last Sunday and talked about Afghanistan, the importance of the strategic partnership with Pakistan and the danger of the recent leaks. He also mentions plans of the United States to attack Iran to prevent them from getting nuclear weapons.
Watch the video below to see this part of the interview.

Mullen, who is the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he thinks “the military options have been on the table and remain on the table. It’s one of the options that the president has. Again, I hope we don’t get to that, but it’s an important option and it’s one that’s well understood.

This seems to astonish some people, especially with Obama being quite friendly towards the Iranian president Ahmadinejad.
But this is no new concept. Big nations like Russia, China and also the United States obviously have attack plans for most countries, just in case. This is a necessary precaution to ensure their involvement in certain regions.

While the US probably even has plans for attacking their allies Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in case of a coup d’état to secure the oil supplies and the Pakistani nuclear weapons, even Russia might have similar plans for Iran if it were going rogue. Those plans certainly differ from the ones Mullen was talking about, yet it shows that there are probably plans for every eventuality.
