Every vote counts

Midterm Elections 2010On Tuesday primaries were held in Michigan. One of them stood out, the Republican primary for 1st Congressional District, to be exact. The two most promising candidates, Jason Allen and Dan Benishek are separated by just a single vote, according to the Detroit Free Press. Benishek, a Tea Party favorite, will have defeated Allen, if the 27,091 to 27,090 result stands.

The Associated Press reported Benishek to lead by 14 votes, which is still a very small margin. Still there is no final result, as of yet. Michigan also allows recounts, if one candidate requests them.

I find it astounding, that election results can still be so close, that literally every vote counts. This should encourage everybody to participate in the democratic process, even if they are disillusioned by their representatives and the politics in Washington, because their vote still does have an impact.
